About Moxley McDonald Architects.

Design ethos: We like to combine contemporary design and technology with traditional or locally sourced materials. We aim not to impose design solutions on people, rather we like to arrive at a design through meetings and discussions with you so we can fully understand what you are after and so you are part of the design solution. Everyone is different with their own aspirations, we enjoy working with each client to find the right design to suit them and the particular site.
All of our designs are custom made to suit the specific site and your requirements.

Sustainability, energy efficiency:We have a long standing interest in sustainable and energy efficient design and incorporate these considerations from the very beginning of the design process. Buildings can be made more energy efficient for very little extra cost if this is prioritised at the earliest stages in the planning to minimise heat loss and make the most of solar gain. We are able to design to PassivHaus standard or close depending on budget and aspirations.

Past and current Projects: A lot of our projects are here in south Devon but we can and do take on projects anywhere between London and West Cornwall. Projects of ours have featured in the Architects Journal and Blueprint magazine and we have won various awards.
Residential: includes new houses, alterations and extensions, barn conversions, refurbishments and holiday lets, and also small housing developments both affordable and open market.
Non residential: includes nursing/care homes, housing for special needs, extensions to primary schools and pre school, health centres, dental surgeries, restaurants including commercial kitchens, community and arts centres, small industrial buildings, shops, showrooms and offices including company headquarter buildings.

Historic buildings, conservation: We have considerable expertise in extending, adapting and altering historic buildings including Listed Buildings, buildings in conservation areas and special areas such as the Dartmoor National Park and AONBs.

Background:Moxley McDonald Architects Limited was formed in 2003 by directors Caroline Moxley and Ian McDonald, and is an RIBA chartered practice. Both are fully qualified Architects and ARB registered. In addition Caroline is a member of the RIBA, and Ian has a post graduate qualification in Building Conservation, valuable when working on historic buildings. Both of us are experienced in a wide variety of building types, and all project stages, so are well qualified to help you see your project through from first ideas through to completion of the project on site. Based in South Brent which has easy access to most places in the West Country, though we’re happy to consider interesting projects further afield.

Personal:We live and work in our converted chapel in the centre of a vibrant local community on the edge of Dartmoor. In our spare time we like to take advantage of living in such a beautiful area and both love walking, sailing and cycling. Ian is a keen cyclist and member of the local Sustrans group campaigning for better cycle routes. Caroline enjoys printmaking and is involved in the local arts scene, she is a founding director of Art House a popular new centre for the creative arts at the local community centre.
